Tangled Branches: Cultivated

happenings in and around my zone 6b gardens in northern Virginia and in central Virginia

Chores: cleaned up brush pile in back from spring pruning and put it out for yard debris pickup; started to rake fall (!) leaves at the back of the lot.

Seeds: transplanted Nicotiana 'Antique Shades', Torenia 'Clown Burgundy', and Petunia 'Giants of California' to cell paks (this does not work well with seeds started in the Bio-Dome - sponges are taller than the cells in the paks, so may have to find a plan B for the next ones); planted seeds of Garlic Chives, Bunching Onions - Santa Claus and ? Isle, Coriander, and Dill - put these in fiber flats in the cold frame.

In bloom: Pink azaleas (front and back), redbud, late daffodils, Anemone nemorosa, Anemone 'Vestal', Galium, Violets (mostly white ones, a few purple still left), Muscari (both 'ordinary' and 'Valerie Finnis'), Bleeding Hearts, Ipheion, Epimediums, Lunaria, Vinca minor, Dogwood, Virginia Bluebells, Bluets, Dandelions (!), Veronica 'Georgia Blue' or something like that, Violas, Pansies, and one lone bright red tulip that still comes up every year at the back of the lot.

Conversation: was talking to a girl whose dog came over to visit, and she said the dog likes to walk here and look for bones because Charlie takes the bones left over after grilling and tosses them over the fence - aha! I was wondering where the crows were getting all the bones that they put in the bird bath.
