Spring Planting, Completed
It's pouring down rain today, and I'm glad, because I finished my spring planting yesterday. For the rest of the summer (assuming we ever get summer), it's all maintenance.
I put up some new photos this morning, and I'm thinking of starting a weed gallery.

The pictures of tulips by the fence, and tulips with violas/pansies are smashing! Maybe I'm going to have to buy some tulip bulbs this fall... of course I'd have to cut down some trees that I already planted to get enough sun to grow them. I may not have tulips, but if you start a weed gallery I've got plenty of material to take pictures of for that. Guess I'd better get off the computer and go out and work on them, so that we can turn around in the driveway again instead of running into the mulch pile. Sigh.

The tulips are not mine, alas. We're lucky to have a fairly nice public garden nearby - Meadowlark Gardens - so I can fill in my photo album with pictures from there when I don't have anything blooming. I can't seem to keep tulips here, although I have one that grows and blooms in the woods, defying all the experts.
Chan's posting on Cold Climate Gardening got me thinking about how little attention I pay to weeds, except to yank them out because I didn't plant them. Oftentimes, I haven't even bothered to learn their names before I yank them out. I thought I recognized her weed with the tiny blue flowers (Hey, I have that one!), but I had to track down a reference so I'd know what to call it. And I have lots of weeds to study because I didn't put down any mulch for 2 years because of a termite infestation. This year I concluded there's no practical alternative to shredded wood, and so bought 7 yards of the stuff and could still use more. So, fewer weeds and more termites?
