Another Day, Another Proboscis
Now that I've started looking, I'm finding butterfly proboscides everywhere. I was trying to get a decent picture of a Monarch butterfly that was feeding on a Eupatorium coelestinum, and this skipper stopped by for a drink. They're kind of cute with those big eyes, aren't they?
Speaking of Eupatorium coelestinum, I seem to have planted another pretty weed. Why didn't I research this before planting it?

Very nice!
Believe it or not, I am still finding Japanese beetles. Picked about ten off various plants today.
On the plus side, I presently seem to have good numbers of monarchs in all phases--eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, and adults--in my yard. So at least if I'm going to have lots of bad bugs, I've got some good ones to go with them. At least that is what I keep telling myself.
No Japanese Beetles here, thankfully. So sorry to hear they're still active in your garden :-(
But how nice to have monarchs! I rarely see them here. Lately the most numerous big butterflies here seem to be the Red-spotted Purples, with an occasional Swallowtail. Lots of smaller butterflies too.
Love the Red Admiral on your blog, and what an amazingly good hummingbird picture!
