LOL
Mulch is the horticultural equivalent of Lemon Pledge.
I don't often laugh out loud at the gardening columns in the newspaper, but I did today. Barbara Damrosch's column in the WaPo was all about how to do an emergency clean-up on your garden. Company's coming - what will people think?!? That sort of clean-up. Thank heaven I'm not expecting visitors.

That's especially funny because I really wouldn't much care about what my garden looked like... I generally take the approach of, "If you feed them and open a decent bottle of wine, all weeds will be forgotten." lol.
I read somewhere that sprinkling the whole thing with water before company arrives will make it look better. I guess it's the sparkle factor.
Blackswamp Girl - I'm with you on the wine! My garden is in such sorry shape this year between our home renovation and our drought-deluge-drought-heatwave-drought - I felt like the column was written for me personally ;-)
Kasmira - I like sparkle! That's a great tip; just think of all the car commercials where the roads are always wet (and empty).
