Snowdrop Watch
Starting the new year off right, I'm late to my own Snowdrop Watch. They were showing color on December 29, and by January 2 they were blooming. This is the same clump that bloomed last year around January 22, and in 2005, around January 13.

Ah, the snowdrops! I love them. It's part of my blog name although I love the early snowdrop. We may have them in California but the are only spectacular to view when they are poking up through a light snowfall. Cheers!

I'd love to be a California girl too, but looks like it's central Virginia for right now. It's somewhat like northern California there, in spirit if not in climate.
Somehow I never thought of snowdrops as California plants - they always make me think of England and English gardening books.
Actually the snowdrop is not native to the Americas at all, but to Asia Minor.
Thanks, anonymous, for making me think about how to write more clearly. What I meant was that I don't think of any of the Galanthus species as being plants you'd commonly find in California gardens. Just my personal impression, and an incorrect one.
