Groundhog Day
Hmmm, what if it's neither sunny nor overcast on Groundhog Day? Does that mean we're getting only 3 more weeks of winter? And I wonder if the Groundhog Indicator is only valid in the early morning?
This is the sky about the time of sunrise this morning. Then we had a beautiful diffuse golden glow. Then we had sleet (honestly!). Then the sun came out. Now it's overcast. The birds sang through it all. I first noticed a cardinal singing in the morning about 10 days ago, and other birds are joining in now - more every day.
Whether the Groundhog is right or wrong, I still like the idea of beginning the seasons on Cross Quarter Days. This year, the actual astronomical cross-quarter day known as Imbolc, Candlemas, Groundhog Day, Risshun, and probably others, coincides with that great American traditional end-of-winter celebration known as the Super Bowl.
Go Bears! (Some of them are even nice guys.)

Your sky is beautiful, Entangled, and I enjoyed the links. Thank you!
The Chicago members of my family will be hoping that the Bears win, and so will my niece in Virginia, but I'm not too sure about the Indiana, Georgia or Washington State relatives!

Well....being a native midwesterner, I'm just happy to see two midwest teams in the Super Bowl. But with that said, Go Bears!
The spouse told me that he heard on the radio about "the Hundred Mile Bar" which is 100 miles from Chicago and 100 miles from Indianapolis. Talk about divided loyalties!
Go Colts!!
<kidding> Carol, y'know I thought about apologizing to you in advance, but then I thought "Naaaah". ;-) </kidding>
Ya gotta root for the home team, even if it was home a long time ago. The last time the Bears won the Super Bowl I was young and single. What a party we had!
I recently started to blog on this Hydroponics blog and I am in Vancouver, and there is a tradition we have in our community. When there is a ground hog day, we also get 20 % off on buying our favorite books at our local banyan bookstore. The urban myth is that on this day did a bunch of ground hogs burrowed on the surfaces to show their lovely fur? I ask you!
Thanks for your post
Julian
20% off books? Now that's my kind of holiday!
I just read recently that the Groundhog Day tradition came to America with German immigrants, except that they were looking to see if badgers came out of hibernation in early February. Maybe groundhogs are easier to find?
