They're Back
First Japanese Beetle of the season this morning - in the house! I have no idea how it got there, but I had just been outside deadheading some daylilies, so maybe it rode in on me. That particular creature is now swimming in the sewer, if it's doing anything. There will be more <sigh>, but I really hope not in house.

Sounds like not a good thing to have in your house although I've no idea what a Japanese beetle actually is. :-)
Yolanda Elizabet: Oh, you're so fortunate that you don't know what Japanese Beetles are! They're one of the worst garden pests in eastern North America. Just when the garden is settling into summer, the Japanese Beetles appear and turn the leaves to lace and the flowers to mangy stubs. I'll be spending the next five or six weeks handpicking the little beasts and drowning them in soapy water.
I haven't seen any yet but I'm sure they'll be out soon. I am not dainty like you are - I just crunch them between my thumb and finger. Best if you hold the bug sideways and squeeze otherwise I've been poked by something sharp on the carapace. They just love our crepe/crape myrtle and I pick off hundreds every day at the height of the infestation.
Ki: Fun in the summertime - killing bugs ;-) I don't think I could squish 'em - too crunchy. I don't even like squishing slugs. I haven't seen another JB yet, so maybe this one was freakishly early. Last year I saw a cardinal eat one - I wish I could train them to eat more.
