Ravens Roost
Last Saturday brought spectacularly clear weather - perfect for a drive in the mountains. We were hoping to see just a little fall color on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but no luck. Still, the view doesn't get much better than this.

These photos were all taken at Raven's Roost Overlook at milepost 10.7 - the location of our favorite picnic table. The procedure is as follows:
- Stop at the Blue Ridge Pig in Nellysford,
- Get a pork BBQ sandwich,
- Walk next door to the gas station for Route 11 potato chips,
- Drive up the mountain, and
- Drink in the view while eating the sandwich and potato chips.
Repeat when necessary.
P.S. The spouse couldn't find the Rt. 11 potato chips at the gas station last time, but they were there a couple of months ago, and have been there every other time we've stopped. I think he didn't look in the right place.
P.P.S. After seeing the bird's eye view of the mountains, how about a bug's eye view of the parking lot?

Gorgeous blue skies and I love the bugeye view too. Can I skip the pork BBQ sandwhich, I'm a vegetarian. What's the flavour of Rt11 Potato chips? One enquiring mind wants to know. ;-)
Catherine: Isn't it pretty up there? We don't go often enough - it's about an hour's drive for us.
Yolanda Elizabet: I think vegetarians might go hungry at the Blue Ridge Pig, but there's a bakery next door, and a wine and cheese shop on the other side.
Rt. 11 Potato Chips come in several flavors besides "potato", but we like the plain salted ones the best. Well, I like the plain salted ones the best - they're nicely crispy, not too oily and not too salty. My husband likes Salt & Vinegar, Barbecue, and Mama Zuma's Revenge (Red). That last one is truly very spicy hot. I think we've tried almost all the flavors they make.
What blue! Those pictures are wonderful.
Nan: The sky was very blue that day, but the landscape setting on my camera "enhances" blues and greens, and I didn't argue with it. ;-)
Your photos take me back a long time ago when we visited the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoyed it immensely. Got my treasured Wildflowers in Color book at one of the information centers. Unfortunately we didn't see the Blue Ridge Pig but I think we weren't eating meat at that time so it was just a well. Thanks for the photos.
Ki: We've only driven a short section of the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I'd love to travel it all the way to North Carolina one of these days. Another plan that will probably have to wait for retirement...
