Oh, that's a pretty purple flower, especially with the frost on it. What is it?
Lovely photo!! Like Julia, I am wondering what plant that is?
Julia & Connie: It's a Cuphea miniata 'Summer Medley'. That's what Thompson & Morgan calls it anyway. The flowers don't normally look like that - there's a summer picture of them here, next to a Petunia so you can get an idea of the size.
The frost looks like ice crystals or rock salt.
Ki: I swear it's not rock salt ;-)
I went out looking for some good pictures of frost, but didn't find much. I guess the air was too dry or something.
That's a lovely photo, with the ice crystals.I like cuphea, too, they grow well here, I will look out for this color. Did you grow it from seed or plant?
Nicole: The Cuphea was grown from seed - Cuphea miniata 'Summer Medley' from Thompson & Morgan. As far as I know, it's only offered in mixed colors, but all the colors are in that range - pinks and purples and magentas and a few brighter red. I found them very easy to grow from seed.
That is an absolutely GORGEOUS photo!
Nice shot!
Thanks, Entangled
I'll try some T&M seeds soon. The only time I ordered from them was on a sale, and almost nothing germinated-I guess that's why they were half price! The British companies certainly have fewer consumer protection concerns than the US...
Kylee & Lisa: Thanks for the compliments!
Nicole: I've read other complaints about germination on T&M seeds. All the cupheas I got from them were very vigorous though.
