Happy Holidays!

This feather tree has been part of our family Christmas celebrations for about 70 years and reflects changing times and fashions. Many years ago it had a set of homemade lights which were telephone switchboard lights strung together. The wooden base has had several paint jobs, but is now the original (we think) with remnants of later colors. These ornaments are only about 15 to 20 years old, but I remember when it wore tiny glass spheres.

Happy Holidays to all those who celebrate this time of year!

Merry Christmas Entangled! Love that pretty Christmas tree and the story about it. Cute little birdie too. There are such fun ornaments to be found, aren't there?

That is one of the best parts of Christmas - the traditions we carry with us.

I hope you have a happy holiday! I'm looking forward to lots more garden posts from you.

All: Thanks for the Christmas greetings! If the scheduled snowstorm doesn't unschedule my flight, I'll be returning from Chicago later this afternoon - hope to get caught up with blogging/reading next week.

belated but heartfelt greetings of the season, and I love your feather tree--I've never seen one before except for some new ones that are quite tacky (black or white).

Martha Stewart may sell and/or buy those feather trees, but your family heirloom is the real thing! How cool, Entangled.

I've been gone, too - an am trying to catch up but everyone is posting like mad so it's impossible.

On the previous post - I've heard we can scatter the seed now for early spring bloom - maybe I'll try it, because the scent is great. Thanks for the bloom photos.

Happy 2008~

Happy Holidays to you! I like the feather tree, makes it so much more meaningful that it's a family heirloom. These seem to be coming back in style too, I have seen them in several catalogs.

All: Thanks for the holiday greetings! I'm still catching up with blog reading. With any luck, I'll have 2007 finished in 2007 ;-)

About the feather tree, my mother and I were studying some of the newer ones online and we concluded that ours looks better (naturally!) because the branches are closer together. My grandfather remembers a white feather tree that belonged to his aunts, but we're not completely sure how old this green one is. From what I've read online, they (feather trees, not the aunts) fell out of fashion by WWII.

Good luck with the alyssum, Annie!

I must live in a deprived world for I have not seen nor heard of a feather tree! Interesting and inventive though.

Ki: The feather tree was with our family so long that none of the living generations realized what it was made of until Martha Stewart and her ilk started promoting new ones. There's a short history at this collectors' site.
