Venus and Jupiter
If you're up just before dawn tomorrow and if you have clear skies (here in Virginia, we won't), look to the southeast to see Venus and Jupiter very close together.
Skies were clear this morning and I couldn't help but notice brilliant Venus; then I saw she had a companion. I assumed it was too bright to be a star. A quick check on Stellarium told me it was Jupiter.

Tomorrow morning they'll be as close as they're going to get, but the view should be good for another few days after that. More info from NASA here.

It will be cloudy here tomorrow morning, but I will try in the morning after that. That will necessitate getting up early - I have been sleeping in these days. Better stop that...
Today I stopped in at a garden centre to check out their orchids. They were closed until 4 Feb. So no orchids for me either.
Kate: We were clouded in this morning (with heavy rain too), but I hope to see the planets tomorrow morning. I'm a morning person, so I'm usually up at that hour.
At first I thought the 4th of Feb would be a long time to wait, but then realized it's Monday. I'm still stuck in January. Post your orchid if you buy one!
Well be cloudy here until mid-June. But thanks for posting such detailed instructions.
When the weather does break, I'll grab my daughter and go out planet hunting!
By Jove ;-), wish we had a clear sky too but no, we had clouds, loads of them, we usually do. Grrrrr
Thanks for that lovely pic Entangled, that is as close as I probably will come to see this whole thing. sigh!
Jim: No sunny Groundhog Day for you? How lucky - spring is right around the corner ;-)
Stellarium is well worth the (free) download. It's one of the nicest skymap programs I've ever seen, and there's always something interesting up in the sky.
Yolanda Elizabet: So sorry you're clouded in too :-(
I got to see the Venus/Jupiter duo this morning - it looked like two headlights coming at me. (I really wish I had thought of "by Jove" - I'm glad you did though!)
Thanks for bringing this to our attention! As you may know, I love astronomy so I don't want to miss this. I'll be up early tomorrow morning to try and see it.
Kylee: I hope you get to see it. We're clouded in here again this morning :-(
It was cloudy here, too. :-(
