An Ice Surprise
As late as yesterday afternoon, the Weather Service assured us that the freezing rain was nothing to worry about because the temperature was soon going to get warmer.
By the time we returned home from dinner, the Weather Service had issued an Ice Storm Warning. It rained all night and the backyard looked like this until midafternoon today.
The crocuses look worse for the wear, but the snowdrops shrugged it off. They were happy and upstanding as soon as they were freed from the ice.

Very beautiful but treacherous to drive in. I love the glistening look of ice covered branches but they can wreak quite a bit of damage if it gets too heavy. We had several arbor vitaes topple a few years back and an unplanned early pruning for some deciduous trees and shrubs. This storm brought mostly snow which turned to rain in central NJ. Many accidents due to the slick conditions.
Thanks for the information on the Bhut Jolokia planting tips. I'll send you some seeds if I'm successful in growing them.
Your photographs are amazing. The poor snowdrops look surreal caught in their ice shroud. I am not a fan of freezing rain ... we so rarely ever get it here. It snows and snows and snows.
Be careful walking!
These are great...and I can sympathize with the ice, although this time, we went from snow to copious amounts of rain without the freezing rain--but driveways and such will be skating rinks come morning...The snowdrop is especially lovely--I don't expect to see my own for quite some time yet!
We've sure had a variety of weather this winter! And the meteorologists have NOT earned their pay either. I love your ice photos.
Wonderful photos but do be careful!

Oh, the photo of the snowdrops in ice took my breath away. You know it is my fav bulb...because my username is "earlysnowdrop!"
Ki: The roads were actually not too bad here. The ice built up on trees and cars, but the roads were mostly warm enough that it didn't stick. I noticed a few branches down around the neighborhood today, but nothing major. Could have been a lot worse.
Kate: I hope your snow melts soon! I was thinking of renaming the snowdrops, icedrops.
Jodi: I hope your snow melts soon, too! 1 month and 6 days until spring.
Kylee: The weather service sure got it wrong this time. Today was not bad though - sunny and warmer.
Frances: We're all thawed out now. I sure hope this is the last of the winter precip.
Earlysnowdrop: I hope to have some more pictures of snowdrops tomorrow for Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day. Thanks for stopping by!
The weathermen here keep blowing the forecast, too. I don't think they've been even close for several months!
Those are great pictures of the plants in ice.

Carol: They're predicting 55 and sunny for today. I hope they got that one right!
