Best Crocus and a Cool Tool
I like all my crocuses, but I like 'Ruby Giant' the best.
A couple of warm days, a thundershower and voila! beautiful dark purple flowers magically appear. The color draws me to it - so vivid and bright after gray and brown winter.
With the warmer weather coming up, and having experienced some GRTH over the winter, my thoughts are turning to.....exercise. Not a lot of exercise, just a walk around the neighborhood. If I'm going to call it exercise, maybe I should measure it and record it in a spreadsheet and make charts of my weight vs. how far I walked and estimated number of calories burned and....oh, forget it - too complicated. But there's this really cool tool - RunningMap.com - for measuring the distance and elevation changes of your route. You give it an address or street name and it gives you a map. You can show just the map or a satellite photo or a map/satellite hybrid. Then start clicking away to draw your route. It measures the distance covered in a straight line between each click and gives you a cumulative total. Fun, especially for a map geek like me. I could sit here and draw walking routes all day...

Lovely! Your crocuses look great and an excellent choice because out of all the ones you could buy you got the same ones as I. :-)
BTW I have this little gizmo that counts the steps I take during the day and calculate how many calories I've burned that way.
Love those little guys ! Such vibrant colours ... I can't wait to see mine when the iceburg melts ! LOL

That's a beaut. We have a light lavender crocus that looks very nice too even if I usually don't like pastels. You are way ahead of us in bloom time. We had a very mild but wet winter unlike you, which the evergreens loved. So I hope the rhodies and azaleas produce a good show this year.
Yolanda Elizabet: For anyone who likes purple, these are the ones to get IMHO ;-)
I should get one of those gizmos, but I'm afraid I wouldn't like what it tells me. I really do need to get more exercise, especially in the winter.
GardenJoy4Me: It's kind of neat to watch spring progress through the blogs. I'll be looking for your crocuses :-)
Ki: I like the shimmery quality of some of the lighter colors, but this particular crocus steals the show.
We made up some of our rainfall deficit on Tuesday night, and more expected today. It was sort of ominous, digging to plant narcissus bulbs and finding the soil completely workable - not totally dry but not all that muddy either.
Thos crocuses are spectacular.
County Clerk: Thanks! 'Ruby Giant' is a particularly nice variety - they take a couple of years to fill in like that, but worth the wait.
