The Morning Read: Sims Gardening

Browsing the newspaper this morning, I came across an article about the popularity of the Sims video games.

Then I stopped over at Kate's blog to read her charming story about the awakening of the liverlilies.

Mingling the two together in my mind, the light bulb lit up - what if there was a Sims-type gardening game?

Turns out I'm way behind on this one. Just do a Google search for "sims garden" and you'll see what I mean.

This could be an interesting winter diversion.....next winter. But I'm curious, have you ever played a video gardening game?

Yeah, I played Sims (Seasons, the expansion pack that includes gardening, though it looks like they've made it more complicated since then) quite obsessively before I started working in an actual greenhouse. Now I just don't have the time for it.

It's not much like actual gardening: I expect one's appetite for it would depend on how much one liked video games in general, not on how much one liked gardening.

Mr. Subjunctive: Thanks for the info. I know what you mean about not having time - I'm having a rough time just keeping up with blogging. I didn't even know about yours until I read the Mouse & Trowel nominations, but I'm pleased to meet you! I graduated from that other university in Iowa (in Ames).

I loved playing Sims, but I agree, there isn't much time to play. And nothing beats actually gardening.

Entangled: Thank you for your kind words on the PPP article. I think that the garden will be ready for a feature article in ten years or so but it is a process so there it is. It is an honor to share the garden with all.

I had no idea that there was so much available on gardening for the Sims. Next winter maybe - I've never really played videogames (unlike my son). It's never too late to learn though.

Thanks for your mention of the Liverlily post. I expected to wake up this morning to find the Liverlilies covered by snow. Luckily, the snow hasn't yet arrived so I can enjoy them for the next while.

All: I thought I posted this yesterday, but apparently not.

Blogger: I've been having fun playing in the dirt this weekend - you're so right that real gardening is way better than virtual.

Layanee: My pleasure! I'm a process kind of gardener myself. I wouldn't like it anymore if I thought it was finished.

Kate: I'm not much of a video game player either, but the Sims type games appeal to me more than the shoot-em-up games. All I've ever played are the shoot-em-up type. Well, except for Pac-Man and Tetris back in the day.

Snow? Oh, that's a shame. I really feel that all North American snow should be finished until next winter. ;-)
