Last Day of April Pictures
April is one of the best months for the northern Virginia woodland garden. We began with daffodils and the little blue bulbs I love so much, and now we finish with azaleas and dogwood and more.

Azalea 'Herbert' blooms along the back of the lot.

The Spanish Bluebells have been outstanding this year.

Pink tulip-of-the-woods. Unlike the red one, I remember planting these at one time. I don't remember planting it in the woods, however.

This old dogwood was here at the edge of the woods when we bought the house.

The coral honeysuckle is finally climbing through the viburnum as I always thought it should.

Lovely photos. The view of the dogwood looks so calm and tranquil. I want to be there!
Herbert looks like a fine upstanding young man ... he shows off his colour to fine advantage. The Spanish bluebells are gorgeous. What I wouldn't do for a big clump growing in my garden! Your Dogwood is impressive. This is the first Honeysuckle in bloom that I've seen this year. I imagine it looks lovely growing through the Viburnum ... it's always a great feeling when plants do what we want them to do.
Lovely flowers! I wonder if some critter made off with that tulip bulb, then dropped it & it rooted there.
Wow. Your photos are eye-popping beautiful. I love the dogwood and those bluebells!
I love pictures of the woods. Must go out and take some!
Beautiful photos. Now that your azaleas are blooming, mine will follow. Gardening in PA.

The Azalea's and your Spanish Bluebells are just lovely. Your pictures are so bright and colorful.
Sue: Come by any time! That corner of the woods is shady and peaceful after the trees leaf out.
Kate: I like Herbert more and more all the time. The color is strong, but not too glaring for the woodland setting.
I always meant for that honeysuckle to twine through the viburnum, and now that it is I'm complaining that the flowers are hidden inside the shrub. Seriously!
MMD: The critter theory is a good one. Always blame the critters first!
Becky: The bluebells have really outdone themselves this year.
Layanee: I love the woods in the spring when everything is so fresh and green.
Jeannie: It shouldn't be long now. Post pictures when yours bloom!
California: Sometimes I think I take too many pictures of flowers, but I love the colors and patterns. Glad you liked them!
That last azalea is rather loud, it makes me colour deaf. ;-) But all the other blooms are nice, the dogwood especially.
Yolanda: Loud is a very polite way of putting it ;-)
Last spring on Felder Rushing's radio show, he called these kinds of azaleas "party girls" and "color thugs".
Beautiful photographs. I didn't have a tulip of the woods, but I DID have a "daffy" of the woods. Not sure how it got there... but, there it was! :-)
Shady Gardener: It's amazing where bulbs end up, and humbling when I realize that the critters planted them in better places than I did.
What? No Virginia bluebells? LOL. I must get some of the Spanish ones. We've got some Virginias, but your photo of the Spanish makes me want those too! Just GORGEOUS!
