This Bird Has Flown

Final wren update: I haven't seen a wren all day.

The grill nest is empty. Part of me wants to go buy a steak to cook tonight, and part of me wants to leave the construction marvel in place for a little while.

The wrens used a variety of materials, including some pretty skeletonized leaves at the outer edges. Have they been studying trendy decorating magazines?

Well, what an architectural marvel. Those little wrens must have worked their tail feathers off building that thing.

Does seem a shame to "tear it down"...maybe if you moved it carefully it could be decoration somewhere?

This post makes me like everyone's grandma, thinking of bird mites and salmonella instead of art!

Grandma Annie says,"You took the photo to celebrate the little wren family, Entangled...now don't touch that thing! Light it up!"

Thanks for visiting my blog.
I think the birds want to make their nest comfortable too :)

Lisa in CA: It's hard to imagine those tiny birds building something that big. And without tools!

Lisa in WI: I hadn't thought of that, and I was thinking of where I might move it until I read Annie's comment so......

Annie: Grandmas are always right ;-) I'll go back to Plan A, which was to remove it to a trash bag while wearing disposable gloves. We had a little mishap a few springs ago trying to burn some other stuff left by other critters in the grill.

Judybec: This may be the first time in 22 years of living here that I've actually seen baby birds in a nest.

Surya: And thank you for returning the visit! The birds had a very cozy place to raise their babies - quite weatherproof ;-)

That is beautiful. Much as I love Grandma Annie, I would probably follow Cousin Lisa's crazy idea. Very very pretty. :)
