Plant Tip from Mme. de Lacaussade
The spouse has been reading Adventures on the Wine Route by Kermit Lynch. Last evening, as I was preparing dinner, he asked "Do you have time to read one paragraph?". "Sure", I replied. It was this:
There are flowers, shrubs, trees, vines, and abundant vegetation all around the U-shaped chateau, with a pretty little garden in the central courtyard. During one tasting, Madame de Lacaussade went to the steps outside the main entrance to empty her glass into a flowerpot. She says plants like wine, especially red wine! "Wine is so very rich in nourishment. What I don't use for cooking I feed to my plants." Her plants appear to be abnormally healthy.

Now I'll have to tell Philo and see if this tidbit amuses him, Entangled. Isn't sharing paragraphs fun?
The flowers won't get a drink from my glass, but I guess Madame's idea could be used when cleaning up after a party.

Annie: My spouse often reads sentences or paragraphs to me while I work in the kitchen, but I guess he wanted to make sure I was paying attention this time :-)
I always intend to cook with leftover wine and then rarely do, so I may test Madame's theory with those forgotten bottles I find in the fridge when I can't fit anything else in the fridge.
Hmm. I'm with Annie... I don't particularly want to share my own glass, but maybe if it's bad wine... or if I have guests that leave some... :)
Will definitely try this. And if I see my plants waving drunkenly about the balcony, I'll know who to blame .... :)
Blackswamp Girl: We had a bottle over the weekend that had quite a lot of sediment in it, and we rinsed that out and dumped it on the plants. Maybe the same effect?
Sue: The spouse wondered whether wine would make the plants healthier or just happier ;-)
