Plant Tip from Tropical Storm Hanna

Don't leave your biggest best green tomatoes on the vine when over 2 inches of rain is predicted.
To be fair, some of these cracks are from the previous rain. But now that the rain is over I think I could stand in the garden and watch these cracks develop (if I had enough patience).
Fried green tomatoes for lunch tomorrow!

Fried Green Tomatoes! Delicious! Are you still getting rain?

Gail: We just finished lunch on this bright beautiful day, and the tomatoes were terrific! The rain stopped early afternoon yesterday.
Hi, Entangled. Glad to see you made it safely through Hanna--seems it was a much rougher ride in central VA than it was closer to the coast. We had about 24 lovely hours of steady rain. I envy you your fried green tomatoes.
Cosmo: It's good to hear that you didn't have any trouble with the storm. As long as the tropical storms just bring steady soaking rain, I'm all for them.
We tried the jerk chicken recipe, BTW, and liked it a lot :-) Thanks! I used one of the Aji Dulce peppers and 2 Lemon Drop peppers, and I think it would be even better with more.
Any homegrown tomato, cracked or not, looks good right now - and I'm jealous of the rain, Entangled. But also glad you guys are okay.
When we lived in the north, we always had leftover green tomatoes for frying... now we're far south, but the fried green tomatoes are few and far between. That does not seem right!
Annie at the Transplantable Rose
Annie: I hope you'll get some rain from Hurricane Ike. And hopefully just rain.
Would you believe I never even tasted a fried green tomato until a few years ago? Now I can't get enough. They're an easy choice at the end of the season, but I sure hate to pick them when they still have a chance to be real tomatoes. Maybe green tomatoes are a SouthEastern thing instead of a SouthWestern thing?
