Cyclamen Curiosities

October 14th, 2008

What does this look like to you?

This is in the midst of my tiny patch of Cyclamen hederifolium. At first glance, I assumed these were more flowers emerging. Not so. This plant neatly cleans up after itself. When the flowers have finished their work, the remaining seed pod rolls itself up in the flower scape and tucks itself back into the leaf litter. I need more plants like this.

But I can’t help but think of snakes.

I didn’t get around to posting anything about the cyclamen flowers this year, but here’s a picture from a few weeks ago.
