Cyclamen Curiosities
What does this look like to you?
This is in the midst of my tiny patch of Cyclamen hederifolium. At first glance, I assumed these were more flowers emerging. Not so. This plant neatly cleans up after itself. When the flowers have finished their work, the remaining seed pod rolls itself up in the flower scape and tucks itself back into the leaf litter. I need more plants like this.
But I can't help but think of snakes.

I didn't get around to posting anything about the cyclamen flowers this year, but here's a picture from a few weeks ago.

One of my all around favorite cutie pie flowers! (The snake, not so much!) Too often the flowers are hiding under leaf litter, but that is one of the delights of Cyclamen...rediscovering them.

Gail: I made the mistake of planting these too far from the house, but it wouldn't be a hardship at all to plant some more. I'm surprised at how undemanding they are - they look too delicate for that.
Neat. I just bumped into your blog and I'll be back to read more. I don't think that Cyclamens would be reliably hardy in Ottawa but I think they're gorgeous.
Ottawa Gardener: Thanks for stopping by! The hardy cyclamens might be worth a try in your garden. This site says that C. hederifolium thrives in zone 4 in NY state.
Hmmmm... I'll have to pay closer attention to mine! This is really cool!
