Very Belated Bloom Day

Yikes! It's already November 20. One week to Thanksgiving. Five weeks til Christmas. So I made a little rule for myself this week - no computer entertainment (that includes blogging and blog-reading, but not Twitter) until the real-world work is done. Guess what? The real-world work still isn't done (progress has been made) and I haven't done anything at all with blogs this week. Well, I made my little rule, and I can break my little rule. Blogging first today. But it's going to be a short post - just my Garden Blogger's Bloom Day list.

Tangled Branches North:
Salvia guaranitica 'Black & Blue'
Cyclamen hederifolium (I thought these should be finished by now)

Self-sown Gazania

Petunia 'Balcony'
Calamintha nepetoides
Mentha piperata (Peppermint)
Cuphea laevis 'Twinkle Pink'

Cuphea x 'David Verity'
Some assorted self-sown Cupheas, but the top half was killed by frost and I pulled most of these out last week.

Tangled Branches South:
Calamintha nepeta
Petunia 'Dolce Flambe'
Petunia 'Balcony'
Achillea 'Summer Berries' (rebloom after cutting back)
Lonicera sempervirens 'Leo' (just one flower cluster close to the ground)
Abutilon 'Voodoo'

This is what was blooming on or about November 15. We've had some very cold weather since then and these flowers are now just a memory.

Hi, Entangled--I love that cyclamen. I read on a blog recently that it doesn't do well in clay--do you do anything special with it? My salvia is still growing strong, and believe it or not I have lantana still in bloom, even after the sub-30 temps the past two nights--but it's in a very sheltered spot. Great photos as always--I'm glad you took a few minutes from your real work!

Memories are good and photos are especially good! I do love the hardy cyclamens...and just ran outside to see if mine survived two nights of frost. Yes, they were tucked under the oak leaves the gutter guy blew off the roof.

Glad you unruled your rule to post!

Cosmo: The cyclamen does OK for me in clay, but it's in a wooded area with a lot of leaf litter. I read somewhere that they like to be dry during their dormant period and it's very dry there in the summer. Today I found that the Abutilon at Tangled Branches South is still green, but the flowers have frozen. I'm hoping for warmer weather, but it doesn't look like we're going to get it.

Gail: I think oak leaves are great insulation! They don't seem to pack down like other leaves do.

Tina: I was surprised at just how much was still blooming. I think December is going to be a different story, however.

I saw your comment over at Ki's about the peppers - I tried to post a cheery comment when you wrote about yours, but it disappeared into the Internet. Or I forgot to click something...
