Harvest: July 10

Left to right: Tavera filet beans, Poona Kheera cucumber, Portofino zucchini, mixed Yin-Yang and Etna beans
We're getting into the high season for vegetables, and I'm still mostly thrilled with the harvest.
I didn't show the garlic I dug up yesterday because that was a disappointment. I had more Silver Rose garlic than any other variety and it appeared to be very healthy, but when I dug it I found most of the bulbs riddled with onion maggots. Not sure what is the best course of action - whether to leave them alone to dry or try to remove the infested parts. Also dug up the French Red shallots. They mostly look OK, with a few starting to rot. More rain expected tomorrow and/or Monday...

I have no advice to offer on the garlic infested with onion maggots. That's group I've never grown. Your other veggies look delicious!

I just read 'Plants and Stones' attempts at garlic this year, with rot occuring underground as well. They thought it was due to all of the rain they've been having. We did have a lot of rain too...but the last week or 2 have been gorgeous! No humidity, not much rain...very enjoyable!
By the way, that squash, the beans, & cuke look awesome! Congrat's on your veggies. I should learn from you but alas, I only do perennials! I love to eat them but don't really have enough sun to have a veggie garden. I'll drool over your photos instead;-)
Beautiful zucchini, Entangled!
Know nothing about onion maggots but they sound creepy. Sorry they ruined your garlic.
The macro photos you've been linking to on Twitter are wonderful - you & your camera are an amazing team.

Always knew you were full of beans. ;-) Ha, I didn't even know there were onion maggots to attack the garlic. And what's more, my garlic didn't know it either so it's fine.
But all in all you've got a wonderful and toothsome harvest!
Carol: Thanks! We go through a lot of garlic around here.
Jan: And today we have another cold, dry, breezy September morning - in July. I enjoy not sweating, but fret about the tomatoes and peppers.
Annie: Thanks for the nice compliments! I think some of the garlic is salvageable.
Yolanda: LOL. I will be even more full of beans when I pick them this morning. Beans in vinaigrette with shallots and mustard for lunch, I think.
